Approaching Kastellet Bed & Breakfast in Vaxholm, Sweden

Home for Midsummer Eve. The Kastellet Bed & Breakfast, situated on its own island just a few minutes boat ride from Vaxholm, served as our home base for the Midsummer Eve festivities. The citadel, dating back to the early 1500s, actually saw active duty, defending Stockholm from two attacks (one in 1612 from Denmark, and one in 1719 from Russia). Its austere, plain exterior belies its renovated interior: The once military chambers have been converted to 27 charming and tastefully appointed rooms.
